isture Resistant MDF
MDF comes in various types these days and knowing the applications for each product is crucial. Beyond the standard MDF there is lightweight (LDF), moisture resistant (MR), fire retardant (FR) and sustainable core. BMC West stocks Sierra Pine’s high moisture no-added Formaldehyde MDF sheet goods. Also known as Medex, it won’t warp, split, cup or shrink, and comes factory-primed with an environmentally preferable coating. This is a superior product and should be used at window sills and moisture prone locations but we do not recommend it in bathrooms and kitchens as listed.
- Formaldehyde free adhesive system
- Superior physical properties to standard MDF
- High moisture resistance
- Superior physical properties to standard MDF
- High moisture resistance
- 100% recycled wood fiber
- FSC (mixed credit), SCS & EPP certified
- LEED credit support: MRc4.1-4.2, 5.1-5.2, 7 & EQc4.4
- Passes ASTM D1037-96a 6-cycle aging test
I have found the Medex to work very well for all outdoor applications such as exterior columns, panels, and any wood painted trim details. I can also run exterior moldings in azec (a non rotting material), to make whatever exterior detail you are working on safe from rotting.
